Summer Pandemic Recovery Payment

The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) has issued a Summer Pandemic Recovery Payment to qualifying youth who have aged out of foster care, ages 18 through 22. Young adults began applying for the $900 payments on the Fourth of July (July 4), 2022 through Labor Day (September 5), 2022.

The application deadline has now passed. The application portal has been closed.

 

Application Details

If you submitted an application, your eligibility will be verified by DHS. If it has been determined that you do not meet the eligibility requirements, you will be notified by DHS via email or standard mail. If you believe the DHS decision has been made in error, you will be given an opportunity to correct any information or to request that your application be reconsidered. 

Eligible applicants will receive a payment from YSS through either a direct deposit to an account in the applicant’s name or in the form of a check made out to the applicant and mailed to the address entered in the application. NOTE: If you chose direct deposit when applying for the payment, the account you listed must stay open until you receive the payment.

It may take up to four weeks for the Summer Pandemic Recovery Payment to reach eligible applicants. We will process your application as quickly as possible. If you have questions or need to revise any information in your application, email the Aftercare Pandemic Recovery Team at yss@yss.org.  Please include “Pandemic Recovery” in the subject line of your email. 

Representatives of DHS or the Iowa Aftercare Services Network may contact you to verify the information you provided in your application, tell you about additional services and supports that are available, or to ask for your feedback. 

Your Information is Secure

Information collected through the online application is held on a secure server with access restricted to authorized users and transmitted only through secure methods. 

The personal information you provided will be used by the Iowa Aftercare Services Program and DHS to determine eligibility and to contact you with offers of services and support. The information you provided will be strictly confidential and will not be shared with another without your knowledge and consent.

Removing Road Blocks

For youth age 14 and older in foster care to receive payment/reimbursement for fees and expenses associated with transportation (vehicle purchase, driver’s license, insurance, and other transportation). Available to youth in foster care by contacting your Iowa Department of Human Services Case Manager or Juvenile Court Officer.
